About

Flourish Financial

Flourish Financial Therapy, LLC was founded by Landon Zwerk, AFC®, in January of 2024 and is located in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Our mission at Flourish Financial is to combine money, emotions, and research-based practices to help people find balance and meaning in their finances. By going beyond the nuts and bolts of our money and looking deeper into the emotions that drive financial behavior, we realize that money is so much more than dollars and cents. We are excited to work and collaborate with individuals, couples, employers, and professionals to provide our innovative financial therapy services and promote comprehensive financial health.

Landon is an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) and member of the Financial Therapy Association and the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education. After earning his bachelor’s degree in business management from Saginaw Valley State University, Landon gained experience in the family business space as well as, most recently, the financial planning/wealth management industry. With a mind for personal finance and a heart for helping people, Landon founded Flourish Financial Therapy, LLC to help clients better understand their money.

What Is Financial Therapy?

Money plays a part in everything we do. It is intertwined in every conscious and subconscious decision we make ranging from what vehicles and homes we buy to what we eat, how we dress, where we live, how we interact socially, and even, in many cases, if and how we choose a life partner and grow our family. Money decisions are all around us but how, and why, do we make all of these financial choices? And what do those choices make us feel? Flourish Financial Therapy, LLC, was born on the premise of those three words: understanding the WHAT, HOW and WHY of our financial behavior.

Financial therapy is a growing field that lies at the intersection of psychotherapy and financial advice. The Financial Therapy Association describes financial therapy as “a process informed by both therapeutic and financial competencies that helps people think, feel, communicate, and behave differently with money to improve overall well-being through evidence-based practices.”

Many people view personal finance as a black and white topic with standardized rules, goals and guidelines that will lead to “success.” In reality, money is anything but. Money is inherently emotional and psychological. In fact, a study by Nobel Prize-winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman tells us that we make financial decisions based 90% on emotion and only 10% on logic. By examining things like money scripts, limiting money beliefs, basic money management skills, financial trauma, and money motivations, financial therapy can lead to more effective financial decision-making, healthier money habits, and a more positive relationship with money.

Financial Therapy Services

Individuals

A strong money mindset starts with the self. Whether you are single, divorced, widowed or otherwise, it is never too early or late to become more aligned with your money.

Pre-Marital

There are many conversations we have prior to marriage as we learn about our partner, with topics ranging from politics and intimacy to family structure, religion, and favorite midnight snacks. Money, however, is a key topic that is generally absent from these conversations. Pre-marital financial therapy will help facilitate these pivotal money conversations to start your marriage off on a healthy financial foundation.

Couples

Money consistently ranks among the top sources of stress and dissension for couples. This could stem from differing money mindsets, competing values and goals, issues of how and where to spend and save, and so much more. Learning effective ways to communicate around money is absolutely crucial to build and maintain a healthy relationship.

Employee Benefits

Quality, focused employees are the lifeblood of any business. Prudent employers understand the importance of employee well-being to the success of their operation.

Harvard Business Review writes, “Studies show that when an individual has financial health — that is, when their basic financial needs are met and they have a clear picture of how their financial choices and decisions impact their lives — they experience greater overall well-being and bring their best selves to the workplace.” The need for financial health and wellness is at an all-time high. Flourish Financial provides financial therapy services and packages tailored to each business’s specific needs.

Professional Collaboration

Beyond standard referrals, Flourish Financial offers on-demand collaborative services with professionals. Whether you are a CPA, financial advisor, attorney, mental health therapist or anyone in between, collaborating with a financial therapist in your client meetings can be a valuable supplement to facilitate communication and financial change.
